“Reporting statistical aspects of health research” – Research Integrity & Ethics 2023

Wednesday 1 Feb 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Session outline

In this session, we will discuss how to clearly report methods and statistical analyses of health research studies, to enhance interpretation and reliability of scientific articles. We will focus on some aspects that are often poorly reported in the medical literature, as well as some reasons for reviewers to reject a paper or recommend major revision.

Brief bio

Dr Michael M Schlussel is a senior medical statistician and methodologist at the UK EQUATOR Centre, based at the Centre for Statistics in Medicine, University of Oxford. Michael’s background includes collaborations with several universities and research centres, focusing on data analysis of large population-based epidemiological studies. He joined the Centre for Statistics in Medicine in May 2014 to work as a trials statistician within the Oxford Clinical Trials Research Unit. His current work is mainly focused on prognostic models and methodological research; more specifically assessing and proposing strategies to improve medical research quality, integrity, and transparency through better reporting. Michael teaches on several MSc courses at the University of Oxford and runs workshops for health research professionals.
