Removing Barriers (or the Fence): understanding & increasing awareness of Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity & Unconscious Bias

Description: With a particular focus on Unconscious Bias this two part workshop aims to develop awareness of and improve equality, diversity and inclusivity and individual circumstances in the research environment. This workshop will help participants to develop awareness and confidence for discussion as well as dealing with and increasing considerations for equality, diversity and inclusivity and mitigate unconscious bias in the context of research.

The workshop sessions will:

  • Provide an overview of the latest terminologies, concepts and considerations such as, Intersectionality, Unconscious/Implicit Bias, BiPOC, Equity;
  • Consider the drivers and benefits of supporting Equality Diversity and Inclusivity and addressing Unconscious Bias;
  • Discuss and debate issues/ challenges and examples;
  • Develop creative solutions, share resources and tips;
  • Look at ways to incorporate learning from the workshop into the CU research environment.

Pre-work: Prior to joining the workshop you are requested to:

  • Think about your expectations – what you would like to learn from this workshop
  • Think about the bias you have experienced personally & professionally
