We are committed to delivering on the recommendations set out in the European Charter and Code for Researchers and the UK Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers commonly known as the Researcher Development Concordat.
A revised Concordat was published in September 2019 and Coventry became a signatory in February 2021. The Researcher Development Concordat sets out three clear principles of environment and culture, employment, and professional and career development. The principles are underpinned by obligations for the four key stakeholder groups, funders, institutions, researchers and managers of researchers.
The implementation of the Researcher Development Concordat alongside meeting the requirements for research degrees set out in the UK QAA Quality Code is considered as equivalent to implementing the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers. This is recognised by gaining and retaining the HR Excellence in Research Award. Coventry has held the HR Excellence in Research Award since 2012.
